Action Taken Against The Board Employees for Serious Errors in 10th Class Exams
Sindh’s caretaker Chief Minister (retd) Justice Maqbool Baqar has taken swift action after an inquiry committee revealed serious mistakes in the results of SSC-II examinations. He has ordered the Anti-Corruption Establishment to investigate the entire examination and IT teams of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) and take departmental action against the negligent officers.
The inquiry committee, headed by Secretary of School Education Dr. Shereen Mustafa, probed the allegations of result manipulation in the 2023 SSC Part-II annual examination by the BSEK. The committee blamed the examination and IT teams for the errors and criticized the board chairman for failing to implement reforms and train the teachers properly.
The committee found that the board had introduced new result software and an Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) system in 2023 without adequate testing and training. The software was faulty and the OMR system caused many errors in the assessment of answer sheets. The board also neglected the IT wing and record maintenance, leading to manipulation and mismanagement.
The committee submitted its report and recommendations to the CM on February 21, which approved them immediately and directed the board chairman to implement them. The committee also highlighted the lack of cooperation and professionalism among the board staff and the conflict of interest of the deputy controller, who was part of the internal inquiry committee despite being involved in the result process.
