From 2025, students in both science and arts will take matriculation exams in English. Urdu will be removed from question papers gradually. From 2026, FA exams will also have English as the language for all optional subjects.

This policy is not final yet, but educational authorities are hopeful that it will be approved soon. However, the Punjab Teachers Union’s General Secretary, Rana Liaqat Ali, is worried about the problems that the language change might cause.

He said, “Teachers need training to help students adjust to the new language and avoid failing because of language difficulties“.
